Handling & storage
Hydrochloric acid is a corrosive, fuming liquid that causes severe burns to skin, eyes, and the respiratory tract; HCl vapour is heavier than air and accumulates at low levels, so storage and handling areas must be fitted with low-level ventilation. Store in vented, corrosion-resistant tanks or HDPE containers away from alkalis, oxidisers, and reactive metals. Handlers must wear acid-resistant PPE including a face shield, chemical-resistant gloves, and respiratory protection in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas. Consult the SDS before handling.
